Salt Lake City, UT—A new document has been found containing a speech given by Brigham Young in 1877. Part of the speech reads: “I have said many things to you about the principle of plurality of wives, but perhaps the truest thing I have ever said on the subject is this—that one wife is for queers!”

The First Presidency has issued an official comment on the document written by President Oaks: “While the language and rhetoric used by President Young at the time may seem offensive or outdated by today’s standards, the essence of his message is still true.”

Many are expecting Brigham Young’s remarks to be canonized as scripture in the next general conference. Others say it doesn’t need to be, since not every truth needs to be made official scripture—some truths are just self-evident.
